The Wolverine spoke with 6-9 power forward Matt Kiefer of Evansville (Ind.) Mater Dei on Friday. Kiefer is ranked No. 110 nationally by Prep Spotlight magazine, and is among the interior players the Wolverines are targeting in the Class of 2002.

Kiefer said that Michigan, Purdue, Notre Dame, Kansas, and Iowa are the schools in which he is most interested at this time. He denied having a favorite, but did acknowledge that at nearby Purdue "my family could come see me."

Kiefer's father has a degree in civil engineering from Purdue, and Kiefer said that he is also interested in engineering -- perhaps chemical engineering in particular. He said that he plans to visit all five schools of the schools he named before making a decision, "probably more towards fall." Added Kiefer, "I'd like to take some official visits, but we'll see how the unofficial visits go."

Kiefer is one of a number of post players from the Hoosier state that Michigan is recruiting. Others include 6-11 PF/C Chris Hunter of Gary Westside, 6-8 PF Tyler Best of Lafayette Central Catholic, and 6-8 Delco Rowley of Indianapolis Arlington.

On Monday, The Wolverine spoke with Rowley about his recruitment. Rowley said that he does not currently have a list of schools. However, when asked which schools have been giving him the most recruiting attention, he named Xavier, Iowa, and Purdue.

Rowley said that he has spoken with the Michigan coaching staff, and likes what he heard. "It sounds like a really good school," he said. "(The coach I spoke with) said if I come up there, I'll probably want to sign." Rowley does hope to visit U-M, but does not currently have any specific plans.

No decision is immediately forthcoming, Rowley said that he is not in a hurry to get his recruitment over with. "(I'm) probably looking more toward fall," he said. Rowley is ranked No. 70 nationally by Prep Spotlight.
