The Wolverine spoke with Gary (Ind.) Westside coach John Boyd on Tuesday about his 6-11 rising senior, Chris Hunter. "We should be taking an unofficial (visit) to Michigan next week," Boyd said of the forward/center, who is also interested in North Carolina, Penn State, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Michigan State, and Purdue.

Boyd also mentioned a new wrinkle in Hunter's recruitment. "He's been entertaining the thought of going to school with his running mate," Boyd said, referring to Westside point guard Brandon Cameron. According to Boyd, Cameron is interested in Penn State, Marquette, Louisville, Princeton, and Michigan.

Boyd also said that Hunter still hopes to have a decision some time in late July or early August. He is ranked No. 25 nationally by Hoop Scoop, No. 36 by Prep Spotlight, No. 38 by The Sporting News, No. 77 by Prep Stars Recruiter's Handbook, and No. 84 by School Sports.

Cornett1 (Story)Also on Tuesday, The Wolverine spoke with 6-8 power forward Ricky Cornett (right) of Homewood (Ill.) Christian, who recently returned home from Colorado Springs, Colo., where he was participating in the USA Basketball Developmental Festival.

"It was the 46 top players in the country just playing against each other," Cornett said. "It was a lot of fun." Perhaps even more fun was the fact that Cornett's North team took home the championship.

Cornett said that he is currently considering Stanford, South Carolina, Arizona, Notre Dame, Illinois, Marquette, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas State, Michigan, and Iowa. "In the past few weeks I've visited Kansas State and Notre Dame," he said, adding that both trips had gone well. However, he disputed reports that Notre Dame and Illinois might lead, saying that there are no teams that stand out from the pack at present.

Although no definite plans have been made, Cornett said that he still hopes to take an unofficial visit to Michigan in the coming weeks, when he will be in the state for a family vacation.

Cornett is ranked No. 33 nationally by The Sporting News, No. 49 by Prep Spotlight, No. 52 by Hoop Scoop, No. 56 by SchoolSports.com, and No. 87 by Prep Stars. He plans to have a decision before the November signing period.

More of Cornett's and Boyd's comments will appear in next month's issue of The Wolverine magazine.
